River Birch Press

Colloquia's Publishing Arm

River Birch Press is the publishing imprint of Colloquia Art in Woodstock, Virginia. We publish books that reflect our interests in art, imagination, and human experience, from illustrated stories for children to essays and accounts of the artists and exhibitions that shape the gallery.

Publishing gives us space to develop ideas more fully and preserve experiences that might otherwise pass with an exhibition. It also allows readers to encounter Colloquia wherever they live.

Anxious Alan

An illustrated story for young readers about navigating anxious feelings. Alan learns to pause, breathe, and find his way through moments that feel overwhelming. Available on Amazon.

Anxious Alan and the Art Gallery

Alan enters the world of art, discovering that a gallery is somewhere he belongs. A story about curiosity, confidence, and the different ways we respond to what we see. Available on Amazon.

Coming soon: Openings — Colloquia 2026: Art, Ideas, and the Making of a Gallery

Andrew Ritcheson’s illustrated account of Colloquia Art’s first year brings together its exhibitions, artists, and the essays published as Colloquies. Set in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, the book follows the practical and personal work of establishing a gallery, its encounters with artists and visitors from near and far, and the questions that emerge when art takes a more central place in life.
